The tea-tribes in the tea estates in Tripura, as in many other places had a perennial tale of suffering and exploitation. Bimal Singha, while still a BA student, threw himself into the cause and in the face of life–threatening schemes against him, built up a strong movement that enabled the oppressed lot to wrest many a right. Labourers of the tea estates in Tripura can never forget his contribution in ensuring for them a livable life.
People of Jalai, a small (mostly and originally Bishnupriya Manipuri) village near Kailashahar still remember his fight with a land grabber whose designs to annex the land of a marginal farmer was foiled by Bimal Singha’s intervention.
In this case Bimal Singha, along with some of his followers had to take up arms against the land shark’s hired goons.
