Bimal Singha’s grandfather Ghana Singha was a member of the Territorial Council of Tripura, which was equivalent to the Legislative Assembly(MLA) today. Before attaining statehood, Tripura had a Territorial Council instead of a legislative Assembly. This Ghana Singha was a man of great integrity, moral principles and ethics. He was loved and respected by all in the locality. Bimal Singha’s maternal grandfather Babai Singha of Kalabari, Kailashahar, was a man of great vision and enterprise. He was the man who laid the foundations of the Ashokastami Mela near Unokoti which is now the most important Mela in the entire North Tripura district. The grandsire of Laxmi Singha’s maternal grandmother was Madan Singha of Bidyanagar, Kailashahar. Madan Singha is an unforgettable name who was instrumental in finding appropriate localities for settlement of his people and getting papers made for them(from the king) when they were still in the phase of finding suitable settlements after fleeing Manipur. Thus we can see Bimal Singha was the meeting point of a number of remarkable bloodstreams.
