It was late noon when I received the call from one of my friend , that a Bishnupriya Manipuri troupe who are in Delhi to perform in IGNCA ( Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts ) , New Delhi for the first time to mark the occasion of Assam Day to be celebrated in “Poorvattari : The Spirit of North East”.. Incidentally they happened to encounter a severe problem leading to a conflict with another group of people belong to a varied community of common dogmas who are becoming instrumental to restrict them to perform on the D day.
I had to rush to Le Sancy hotel, in Karol Bagh, , but before I reached the place , the pejorative issue was solved with the help of strong advocacy by Monika, Henryy , Chandan, Nilkanto, Jyotirmoy and also Mr. Dilip Sinha who was leading the troupe. The enthusiasm finally reinstated among the participants.
Next day, the 18th of Jan was definitely one of the historic red letter day for entire Bishnupriya Manipuri community because ,on this very day our culture and dance was identified and established on a national level. Hats off to Mr Dilip Sinha, and all the members, Anindita, Supriya, Amrita, Subhashini, Sudipta, Reema, who are from Chencoorie, Singari and Rengti villages and all the boys, Debabrata, Praveen, Gopinath, Kajol,Nipendra, Shankar are from Singari , Silchar. Every individual of the community knows the credibility of Mr Dilip Sinha as a musician and his association with Kalakshetra , so as I . So it was a clear sense of aplomb to see a person of his stature to lead the troupe. I felt more exalted when Dilip da approached me to write a brief about the couple of performances Kartik pali Dance and Korotali Nasha, they were to exhibit to shoot for the IGNCA documentary. I simply dint hesitate to grab the opportunity and happily registered my voice by announcing some detail of the items.
The moment was simply ecstatic to see our people exhibiting our culture in the Capital, it was definitely a moment of pride for all of us. I must also thank to Mr Jyotirmoy, Rahul and Manas, who had arranged snacks and beverages for the participants on behalf of www.bishnupriyamanipuri.org
A shy of relief for Dilip Sinha and the members, when they were offered support and warmth by the Delhi BM youngsters. One thing I definitely missed was the whole BM fraternity of Delhi as the news of the program was not spread in time.
The gala function to place in the evening in front of thousands of dignitaries present as spectators. As the BM troupe entered the flood lighted stage they were welcomed by heavy cheers, the scene was beyond expressions the costumes were awesome and the exhibition was also exemplary and marvelous.
The 18th Jan, 09 was definitely a historic day to mark upon for the entire Bishnupriya Manipuri community. We now can say that … YES, WE CAN and WE DID. …
The day is not far when we will be identified as the community of divine culture and creed among the entire mankind.
