18th of January 2009 for the Bishnupriya Manipuri team that performed at the Purvottri Spirit of North East festival was a reality because of the courage of one girl called Monika Rajkumari. The entire community should applaud the effort of this dynamic Bishnupriya Manipuri girl who is also a budding choreographer.

The story is the same old one. Except, this time we won. This time democracy won.As usual there was a section which objected that this team cannot perform with the name Bishnupriya Manipuri. Further this team was accused of NOT being Manipuris. At a point of time it was also a possibility that this team may not be able to perform as conveyed to us.

To this Monika Rajkumari spoke to the officials and further conveyed and convinced that we are a recognized community as Bishnupriya Manipuris in Assam. The discussion went on with the officials for a good 15-20 minutes. Fortunately the officials were kind enough to listen out, understand and appreciate the facts stated by Monika Rajkumari. Eventually the team was allowed to perform.

To mention, the difficulty faced by the team was mentioned to some of the key people residing in New Delhi on the 17th of January 2009. As usual many promised to help out this team, but backed out at the last minute.

The people present to lend out their support to the team in difficulty or atleast turned up on being called were Chondon Sinha, Nilkanto Sinha, Jyotirmoy Sinha, Brahmananda Sinha and Henryy Sinha. And of course Monika Rajkumari.
