All of us can not but coincide to the most prevalent fact that the other cultures including the Meitai always feel proud to be in their cultural attire even in the markets, colleges and office, wherever possible. Why do we rarely find the same in our 'Bishnupriya Manipuri’? Girigithani esp. Ningalpeese, please lets not be reluctant and rather be proud to be in our cultural attire as others do. Though, it is a continually repeated request we have to acknowledge it as one the biggest concern in us.
While watching an IPL match yesterday, being held in South Africa, I suddenly, caught a glimpse of a guy dancing in the crowd wearing a gamsaa around his neck, the first thing stroke in my mind was ‘hey he is from our Assam’. This is something so influential that you don’t have to think. This is indeed, the only way we can make common people recognize us. Else this ignorance will someday adversely impact on our culture and will be as we are (taking long hours to introduce who we are, which community we belong to, since people hardly know what/ who is Bishnupriya Manipuri.
Numerous educated-unemployed people are struggling to find an earning whereas well-educated people are earning less than a less educated person. This is vastly seen in rural areas which is merely because of the paucity of proper source and lacking social contact with fellow employees. So now lets ask ourselves who and what we are doing to bring this level of people to the level they deserve? Had we been in assistance or in contact with each other, this would have never happened.
There are so many successful people in our community, even so many Bishnupriya Manipuris working in Bollywood as film director, actors, creative artists and so on. But who knows how many of them, in fact come forward to offer assistance to the people of our own community.
Needless to say, there is no paucity of talented/ skilled people in our community. But we never recognize those nor can ever get exposed. Just to add some examples, these are the only Bishnupriya Manipuris youth in the largest numbers, who get selected in Army Recruitment (in running) with flying colors amongst thousand candidates. In Army Rally, if you see some candidates coming out in excellent positions, be ensured that there must be a die hard Bishnupriya Manipuris among them. This has been going on for years which still persist.
But why can’t we utilize this in other areas as well apart from the Army Rally. Have we ever seen a Bishnupriya Manipuris in National Athlete? How many of us know that a very young lad from my village (Dullavcherra, Karimganj, Assam) has won the Bronze medal (Shooting) in the last National games held in Guwahati. Since his childhood, the boy used to roam along the bank of river with a catapult (Gulliset) in his hand killing birds and do mischievous things. Ideally, in villages when you see such boys, we get to hear a common saying from elders ‘sougo mangoil- lerik hanadete nei pahiya maare maare booler’. But we hardly try to recognize the skill in these people. This boy later gets selected in Army and since he is already skilled in catapults, his incredible skill is recognized while being in shooting training. On the very basic training, he was selected for National Games in the Defense category and won the bronze medal. Had the lad not been selected in the Indian Army, his Gulliset skill would never turn or make him a shooting competitor in the National Games. None can even imagine that there are numerous such anonymous skilled people in our community who due to improper source, are struggling or some can’t even realize that how far they can reach with their skills. Are we doing anything to reward and regonise such people to inspire others??
Lately, I have listened to a song “Faalgunar liri liri bowe pagal karla manhaan” of ‘KOLING’ movie. The anonymous singer Niharika Sharma has sung the song so fabulously that a music lover, keeping his favorite song aloof, will be bound to listen to this song 100 times repeatedly. However, I got to know that the girl has now got married and inevitably THE END OF HER stunning CAREER. Lately, when I tried to convince her parents to allow her daughter to continue with her profession even after marriage, they regretfully simply blamed few things: Lack of Source, Proper guidance, Contacts & inability to afford. So who, in our community, is doing what to stop such blooming flowers to fade it before it blooms?
Can’t we organize events like Job-Fair, Talent-Hunt and R & R (reward & recognition) for Bishnupriya Manipuris?? I remember there was a Modeling-cum-Talent Hunt show held in Silchar, organized by Kartik Sena Sinha few years back. Unlike a common Bishnupriya, I was overwhelmed with joy to see so many incredible dancers, singers, models (male/female) and a lot more, participated in the modeling show. But who knows what happened to those scrutinized or selected talented people. Despite having so many talents why we are not getting any exposure??
I have even seen factory labors from Bihar participating in a dance program like Boogie Woogie but very regretfully have never yet seen a Bishnupriya in any TV Reality Shows. Though we have so many talents why we can’t be exposed to the world??
Each time we educate others, deliver lectures a lot to gain the SELF PUBLICITY, organize Sabha, Maha-sabha and a lot more. But how many times we practically have found any effective initiatives, out of it, been taken. A person can not be a patriotic in an empty stomach. So all these obviously point to none but those well-to-do people in our community.
We appreciatively have a list of Samaj Sevaris but it is also equally essential to know who has done what or is doing for the community generously and selflessly.
