Ladies and Gentlemen, time for some applause please by Henryy Sinha

DATE : 19 August, 09

As Utsav’s round the corner, we take this opportunity to applaud all those who took time out of their busy schedules in a city like New Delhi and made the event a huge success last year, 2008.
Moving on a rewind mode pre 2008, one name must feature in setting the trend of organizing events like Kechuri Pali and Sadhu Thakur Utsav in Delhi. That man is Mr. Chandra Mohan Sinha of Mangalapuri who relentlessly and almost single handedly organized the events for the first couple of years. It is our privilege to highlight those people who need to be applauded for the good work that they have done earlier and at the same time encourage them to keep the good work going.

In 2008, the formation of Bishnupriya Manipuri Nagarik Samiti gave a tremendous boost to the entire community of the city. The Samiti was an interesting composite. It had people from diverse experiences, expertise and outlook. The first event showcased a rare and beautiful synchronization of the diversities. A balance was achieved and that showed during the Utsav. In a nutshell a well managed, well received event took place, which of course with some more improvements can be templatised for future successful events.

  • Let’s not forget, the scale in which this event was organized was the first of its kind for the Bishnupriya Manipuris in Delhi.
  • This was the first Bishnupriya Manipuri event in the city, in which the entire management came up in our traditional attires – Namsha, Dhoti, Kurta, Khutei.
  • This was the first Bishnupriya Manipuri event in the city where some of the seniors regardless of having the inability to speak in the language, gave speeches in Bishnupriya Manipuri by reading out from pieces of paper that were given to them, in order to maintain the sanctity of the event. Dr. Nirmalya Sinha and Mr. Shashikant Sinha must be given full credit for this incredible gesture.
  • This was the first Bishnupriya Manipuri event where all the volunteers donned the traditional attires and saw through the Utsav with utmost discipline.
  • This was the first Bishnupriya Manipuri event in the city where a rule was laid which blocked any speech or discussion that deviated from Bhubeneshwar Sadhu Thakur.
  • This was the first Bishnupriya Manipuri event for which a group of Bishnupriya Manipuri netizens took on a publication like Times of India for wrongly publishing Sadhu Baba’s name and victoriously came up with a corrigendum the subsequent week.

Yes, there will be room for improvements. No second thoughts about it. The brains behind all these however, deserve some applause.
