Heart-felt thanks to Henry Sinha for raising the issue of Bimal Sinha’s assassination. I appreciate his way of presenting it – thought provoking and all. But as a thinker I personally think such reticence is of no consequence in this society. Or, may be, we are way past that stage of generic, broadminded thinking. It’s time we asked pin-pointed questions. Say, what did the Mahasabha do in regard to this matter? If it’s the umbrella organization of the society, it must answer that question. It’s said the Mahasabha’s Tripura chapter first demanded CBI inquiry and shouted out stimulating words vowing to take to the streets. It is also said, the leaders spread a bedspread in the square asking the madly infuriated people to contribute funds for starting movement that wouldn’t stop until espaar or uspaar. Then the sham of a leader quietly, without consulting anyone, settled on a CID inquiry. This is what Mahasabha did in Tripura. Hadn’t Mahasabha had anything to do in Assam? Surely it could have done a lot. It could at least have attracted media attention by organizing protest marches, sit-ins etc. One can easily understand that Guwahati based media was more than eager to sympathize with us. Then, did Mahasabha do any such things for one of the greatest sons of the community? Some of you over there are indignant at the very mention of the Mahasabha. “It’s of no consequence,’ you prefer to dismiss it. But it’s wrong. It’s height of immaturity to take Mahasabha lightly. If you think it can’t do anything meaningful, think twice, it can do great harm to the society. If mahasabha doesn’t do what it’s expected to do, it had beter not exist. Raise your voice against the Mahasabha. Plz do not ignore it. It should either work or perish. Demand of Mahasabha what it’s done in regard to Bimal Sinha’s death.
